Big month of softball this June

EventsPosted by admin Tue, May 26, 2015 21:13:29

With the Great Britain Fastpitch League drawing to a close at the end of May, local softball is back on the menu in June with two home Blue Sox Ladies fixtures and the launch of a brand new fortnightly Leicester Softball League for co-ed slowpitch teams.

New Leicester Softball League (co-ed slowpitch)

The new league is a joint venture between Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, BaseballSoftballUK, Leicester Blue Sox and Leicester Royals, with the aim of increasing the number of men and women playing softball locally during the summer.

A launch event for new corporate softball teams under the "Workplace Challenge" banner will be taking place at Stoughton Road Playing Fields (home of the annual Labour Day Softball Tournament) on the evening of Tuesday 2nd June.

New corporate teams can still sign up for the event via (cost is £3 per player):

Following the launch event, a fortnightly league will be anchored by co-ed teams from Leicester Blue Sox and Leicester Royals, together with corporate teams formed from the participants at the preceding Workplace Challenge event.

The following schedule of league dates has been created:

· Tuesday 16 June

· Tuesday 30 June

· Tuesday 14 July

· Tuesday 28 July

· Tuesday 11 August

The new Leicester Blue Sox co-ed softball team will comprise of male and female players from our established baseball/softball sections (min age is 14).

All league games will be played at the Stoughton Road Playing Fields facility. Please note that on the designated league nights, there will be no Blue Sox Ladies practice at Western Park and our female players are therefore encouraged to participate for our co-ed softball team.

East Midlands Fastpitch League (Blue Sox Ladies)

After successfully completing a schedule of road trips to Nottingham and Leeds during April and May, it’s now the turn of the Blue Sox Ladies fastpitch team to host a pair of EMFL double-headers at Western Park.

The upcoming schedule is as follows:

· Saturday 6 June – Scartlet Arrows at Blue Sox

· Saturday 13 June – Pyros at Blue Sox

Further details will be circulated nearer the time of the games. Needless to say, we are looking to recruit as many new players as possible (both male and female) as there will be a lot of softball to play this summer!
