This Thursday 11 June the Leicester Blue Sox baseball fields at Western Park will be hosting the inaugural Sainsbury's School Games Super-Series final.
The event will feature nine secondary school teams from across the county in a tournament to decide who will be the 2015 champions.
Sainsbury's School Games provides a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire young people to take part in more competitive school sport. It is open to all young people aged 5-18 years, of all abilities and backgrounds from every school across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.
This event has been planned and co-ordinated with the help of BaseballSoftballUK and our local county sports partnership, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS).
Our initiative has also seen the creation of three Leicester Blue Sox satellite clubs in city schools, who have received enhanced support through an LRS grant that has funded new equipment, as well as coaching from the Blue Sox and GB Baseball programmes.
With an increasing number of KS3 school boys playing baseball and softball across the county, it is hoped that we can form a new Leicester Blue Sox 'Playball' team to enter a National school team tournament scheduled for Saturday 5 September.
Last year the inaugural Playball National Championship was hosted at Western Park, with Hull Junior Scorpions taking the title. The 2014 Leicester Blue Sox Playball team were beaten finalists but they have gone on from strength to strength, picking up their first league victory against Halton Polecats u14 earlier last month.
We look forward to hosting the next generation of junior players at this Thursday's Super-Series and can't wait to see which of them make the transition to the National tournament this September!
First pitch is at 4pm.
