Leicester Blue Sox and Great Britain Junior Rory Chandler has been selected to play in the Major League Baseball Spring Academies Tournament, as well as the National Baseball League this year.
Rory has made the MLB European All-Stars roster and will play at the tournament in Barcelona on 18-23 March against other academy teams from Holland, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Spain and France.
Great Britain Juniors Head Coach Will Lintern said Rory had earned this opportunity "because of the hard work and determination he has put in on the baseball field and at the BSUK High Performance Academy programme over the last six to eight months".
Rory is one of three British-based players who have been selected. He will be joined by his GB Junior team-mates Connor Brown and Carlos Casal Jr in Barcelona.
After breaking into the GB Juniors last season, Rory will be pushing for National Team re-selection in time for the CEB European Junior A-Pool Championship, which takes place on 11-17 July in Gijon, Spain.
In order to ensure Rory plays domestic baseball at the highest-possible level this season, we are delighted to confirm an agreement has been made for him to play for the NBL's Essex Arrows in 2016.

Blue Sox Juniors General Manager Matt Crawshaw said "Rory's progression in baseball in just two and half years has been nothing short of astonishing. He is truly a gifted athlete having already excelled at cricket and rugby before joining our club towards the end of the 2013 season. We will continue to support Rory in every way possible as he pushes his game towards new heights."
He added "The success of Rory and others before him, validates the positive experience local youngsters are enjoying here at the Blue Sox. We cannot wait for junior practice to start this year, so we can build on this and develop even more stars of the future".
The 2016 Leicester Blue Sox Youth Baseball Camp starts this Thursday at West Gate School and is fully subscribed. Outdoor practice for all junior baseball age-groups then follows on Sunday 13 March, which new players and beginners are also welcome to attend.
