Four Leicester youngsters are travelling to Prague this half term week to play at an international baseball tournament.
Reuben Crawshaw, Ben Fox, Arnav Rai and Megan Rollins from the Leicester Blue Sox have been selected for the inaugural United Kingdom under-10s team, along with 10 other players from around the country.
The team flies out to the Czech Republic on Thursday 1 June, with three days of baseball action between Friday 2 June and Sunday 4 June.
It is the first time a UK national team has been formed in this age group. In addition to the top teams from the Czech Republic they will be joining teams from countries such as Austria, Belarus, China, Hungary, Lithuania, Moldova, Slovakia and Spain.
Team UK has been drawn in Group C, alongside the Belarus national team and four Czech Republic teams. In order to progress further in the tournament they will need to finish in the top two places in their group after the first couple of days' play.
Matt Crawshaw, Junior Teams Manager at Leicester Blue Sox said “what a fantastic opportunity for four of our talented youngsters. They have been training for this tournament since February including national team practice in London on the bank holidays. It will be a proud moment seeing our Team UK players putting on a national team jersey for the first time!”
Team UK’s first game is against Klasik Frydek-Mistek from the Czech Republic at 10am (UK time) on Friday 2 June.
